Orthodox Sunday was solemnly celebrated at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint George Nigritas

The Sunday of Orthodoxy, the feast of the Restoration of the sacred icons, was celebrated with due splendor and solemnity on Sunday, March 13, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint George Nigritas.
On Sunday morning the Orthros Sequence chants and then the solemn Divine Liturgy was performed, observing the measures of protection of public health.
The Mayor of Visaltia, Athanasios Maslarinos, attended the glorious Liturgy, who also participated in the procession of the Holy Icons in the courtyard of the Holy Temple, holding in his hands the icon of the Holy Trinity.

Orthodox Sunday commemorates the restoration of the Holy Icons after a long period of Iconoclasm. On the first Sunday of Lent in 843 AD, Saint Theodora together with her son Emperor Michael, liturgized and restored the Holy Icons together with the clergy and the people. Since then we celebrate every year the remembrance of this event because it was finally decided that we do not worship the Icons, but honor and glorify all the Saints who depict and worship only the Holy Triune God. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
